Cutwork t-shirt tutorial

Supplies:

Pre-washed t-shirt

Sulky Ultra Solvy Heavy Stabilizer

Sulky Totally Stable Stabilizer

Cutwork designs and printed templates (I used Anita Goodesigns Canterbury Collection)

Embroidery thread and matching bobbin

Blue tip marker

KK2000

Applique scissors helpful

I iron the Sulky Totally Stable on the back of the shirt to stabilize the area I am going to work on.  I normally do one side at a time so let’s start on the left.

Next step is to take your printed templates and mark the front of the shirt.  Although I lay them all out to audition them, I only mark one at a time.

Hoop the Ultra Solvy Heavy stabilizer and spray it with KK2000 and lay your t-shirt on the hoop, or if you prefer you could hoop the t-shirt .  Either way, align the cross hairs and prepare your t-shirt for embroidery.  I prefer to not hoop my shirt but I do use a basting stitch to attach it to the stabilizer in the hoop.  Stitch out the first color and then trim the area of the shirt that the cutwork will be stitched on.  Take care while cutting not to cut through the solvy on bottom.  Applique scissors are very helpful.  If you have a hard time cutting through the totally stable, don’t worry about it, we can pick the stabilizer out later.

Place the hoop back on the machine and finish stitching out the rest of the colors.

Once this step is completed do the same for the other side. Then lay your initial template in the center and mark the cross hairs for embroidery placement.

Once you have finished your embroidery, cut away as much solvy as possible taking care not to cut through the shirt (been there done that) and you will get something that looks like this.  Be sure and wash your t-shirt to remove the excess solvy.  Add crystals if desired and ENJOY!
